Lash Serum: Morning or Night? When to Apply It (Australia)

Lash Serum: Morning or Night? When to Apply It (Australia)

It is the question we hear most from Australian customers once the serum arrives: do I put it on in the morning or at night? You will find confident answers on both sides online. Here is the honest one, followed by a routine that fits Australian life, with its sunscreen, swimming, humidity and air-conditioning.

We sell a lash serum, so read this with that in mind. Directions below come from our own LashViva product page, and the rest is general information.

The short answer

Either works. Our LashViva directions say to use it once daily, either in the morning or at night, and to keep going consistently. We are not aware of good evidence that one time of day beats the other for a peptide serum. What matters far more is that you apply it every day, in the right spot, in the right amount.

If you want a tiebreaker, pick the time you are least likely to skip. That is usually the evening for people who wash their face at the same time every night, and the morning for people who already have a fixed routine before work.

Morning or night: the practical trade-offs

Why some people choose night

  • It is the cleanest slate. You have just removed makeup and sunscreen, so the lash line is clean.
  • Nothing rubs it off. No mascara, sunscreen or sweat in the first few hours.
  • No clash with sunscreen. Morning SPF around the eyes can sit on top of a serum that has not dried.

Why some people choose morning

  • It is a habit anchor. It slots in next to brushing your teeth and moisturiser.
  • You are less likely to forget. Tired evenings are when routines slip.
  • Fine with makeup as long as you let it dry before sunscreen or mascara.

How often should you use lash serum?

Once a day, one stroke along the base of the upper lash line on each eye. That is what our LashViva directions say. More is not better and can mean more irritation. Use it daily for 12 weeks and then keep going to maintain results, as per the product's how-to-use directions.

Skipping the odd day will not undo your progress. Stopping for weeks will, because lashes keep cycling through growth, rest and shedding. Our guide to how long eyelashes take to grow back explains why results take weeks, not days.

Do you use lash serum morning and night?

No. For our serum, once a day is the direction. Using it twice does not speed up the lash cycle. If you use a different brand, follow the directions on its pack, since some are written for nightly use.

A simple routine

  1. Cleanse. Remove makeup and sunscreen with an oil-free remover so the lash line is clean and dry.
  2. Apply. Use the applicator tip at the base of the upper lashes, one stroke per eye. Do not apply to the lashes themselves.
  3. Wait. Give it a few minutes to dry before sunscreen, eye cream, makeup or mascara.
  4. Protect. In the morning finish with sunscreen. Cancer Council Australia recommends SPF 50+ every day when the UV index is 3 or above. See our sunscreen collection.

More tips on layering are in our lash serum results guide. If you wear extensions or have a lash lift, read how to time your serum around them.

Around Australia: what changes with where you live

  • New South Wales (Sydney, Newcastle, Wollongong): humid summers and plenty of beach days. If you swim in the morning, apply after the swim, or move to night.
  • Victoria (Melbourne, Geelong): big temperature swings and dry winter heating. Either time works, so pick the one you will stick with.
  • Queensland (Brisbane, Gold Coast, Cairns): sweat and humidity can shift products, so a clean-skin evening routine is often easier.
  • Western Australia (Perth): very high summer UV, so make morning sunscreen the priority and keep the serum to the lash line only.
  • South Australia (Adelaide): dry heat in summer. Keep your hands clean and the applicator tip dry and capped.
  • Tasmania (Hobart, Launceston): cool and dry. Evening is a natural slot beside a longer winter routine.
  • ACT (Canberra): dry air and cold mornings. Whichever you choose, consistency counts.
  • Northern Territory (Darwin, Alice Springs): wet-season heat and sweat or dry-season dust. Evening, after you have washed your face, is usually the cleanest option.

Safety and who should check first

Our LashViva page advises avoiding use during pregnancy or nursing, so check with your doctor or midwife and show them the ingredient list. If you have an eye condition, are on eye treatments, or wear contact lenses, ask your optometrist or doctor before starting. Stop and get advice if your eyes become red, swollen, painful or irritated. Our guide to lash serum and burning eyes covers what is normal and what is not.

Prescription bimatoprost products work differently and need a doctor's direction. CHOICE notes that bimatoprost is prescription-only in Australia and that products sold overseas may not be approved here.

Frequently asked questions

When should I use lash serum?
Once a day, at whichever time you will keep up. Both morning and night are fine for our serum.

Should you use lash serum at night or in the morning?
There is no clear winner. Night is cleaner and avoids sunscreen overlap, while morning is easier to remember.

Can I use lash serum during the day?
Yes. Let it dry before sunscreen or makeup, and skip it on days you will be swimming straight after.

Can I use lash serum in the morning?
Yes. Apply to clean skin, wait a few minutes, then go ahead with sunscreen and makeup.

How often should I apply lash serum?
Once daily, one stroke per eye along the upper lash line.

Do you put lash serum on morning and night?
No. Once daily is the direction for LashViva. Check the pack of any other serum.

When do I apply lash serum in my skincare routine?
After cleansing and before moisturiser, sunscreen or makeup. Keep it on the lash line and away from the eye itself.

What if I forget a day?
Carry on the next day as normal. Do not double up.

How long until I see a difference?
Allow weeks. Our directions say to use it consistently for 12 weeks, and results vary.

Can I use it before mascara?
Yes, once it is dry. Remove mascara with an oil-free remover before your next application.

Is lash serum safe with lash extensions?
See our guide on timing around extensions and lifts, and ask your lash technician.

Is it safe in pregnancy?
Our product page advises avoiding it during pregnancy or nursing. Check with your doctor or midwife.
